Wondering what summer men’s fashion trends are hot right now? This year showcases re-energised, bolder looks, driven by a need to revert to ‘normal’ life and the thriving TikTok fashion culture. This year fashion houses and designers are showcasing new silhouettes as a counter-response to the pandemic.

“The extensive COVID-19 lockdown acted as a catalytic force to the highly creative online communities and internet subcultures, giving birth to previously unseen styles and combinations.”

Explains Anna Wintour, Artistic Director of Condé Nast and Vogue’s Global Editorial Director.

For years fashion trends have been taken from the runway and fashion magazines. But now, it’s social media influencers and streetwear culture showcasing and dictating what’s cool and fresh in fashion. With Y2K fashion peaking higher than ever, Men’s summer trends are all about spotlight-stealing attire with a joyous mood, from vivid colours and prints to bold silhouettes and cutouts galore.

With the vast majority of designers demonstrating a renewed creative energy, this season’s clothes are considerably more exciting to look at, write about, touch and wear – compared to previous years. It’s fair to say the summer and remainder of the year have plenty of fun trends in store for you.

The weather is heating up, and it’s time to set your style on cruise control. The Style Pulse team have spent the past few months refining all the most influential trends so that you have a comprehensive buying and dressing guide now that summer 2022 has finally rolled around. Here’s our trending guide on what to wear this summer.

CUTOUTS

Dare to bare? The revival of cut-outs has taken centre stage, getting even more daring this summer. Influenced by the 90s and early 2000s Matrix-core, post-apocalyptic dystopian fashion, and the techno and rave scenes, the concept of cut-outs has recently been revisited and redesigned through the lens of high fashion.

The return of Courregés, with designer Nicolas Di Felice running the show, has been one of the top stories in menswear this season. The designer has electrified the Parisian brand with a slick new silhouette for SS22, showing a series of cut-out vests that has become an instant sensation on Instagram.

Though there was undoubtedly a time when cut-outs were more or less a controversial trend, designers have embraced the risqué fashion statement, taking sexy slits to the extreme. It seems ‘naked’ fashion is back with models and celebrities wearing these skin-baring designs in a way that feels achievable outside the Hollywood bubble. Scandalous or sexy? The question is, are you ready?

STATEMENT SLIP SANDALS

Lockdown saw an increase in socks and slides combination. It’s a pairing you will either love or hate, but one thing is for sure – we never thought we would be seeing the combo walking down the catwalk for luxury fashion houses.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact we all wore more slippers during the lockdown, or it’s because LVMH recently bought Birkenstock and gave the pursuit of comfort over fashion the platinum seal of approval.

Either way, we can almost smell the heat of stepping off the aeroplane and arriving at your holiday destination. It’s time to say goodbye to your leather boots and trainers for the season and say hello to the ultra-comfort-focused sandal flex for summer 2022.

RESORT-WEAR

This year marks the return of the great escape. Whether you’re jetting overseas or planning a weekend getaway, 2022’s resort wear trends are sure to be easy, breezy, floaty, and light.

Many resort wear trends emerged at the forefront of the Spring/Summer 2022’s collections, from nostalgic crochet and naturally woven materials, all with a hand-crafted feel, to an influx of artful prints and saturated colours, many featuring exquisite artisanal touches.

For most guys, segmenting a section of your wardrobe for clothing you wear only on vacation might seem a little extreme, but resort wear can see you through those summer parties in Ibiza to the best music festivals.

By design, resort wear needs to be able to take you from lounging by the pool in the day to hitting up the hotel restaurant or checking out local spots by night. That means the best resort wear is casual enough for sitting in the sand but stylish for sitting at the bar.

So what are the best resort wear basics for men? Start with a camp collar shirt, which has a loose fit, and a collar that cuts away from the neck for optimal breathability and comfort. We love a co-ord, and styling a set couldn’t be simpler — keep the shirt unbuttoned and throw on some sunglasses.

Below we have carefully selected three brands from The Style Pulse platform that are on trend for Summer 22.
