{"id":354,"date":"2018-11-23T11:15:25","date_gmt":"2018-11-23T11:15:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lambert.associates\/blog\/?p=354"},"modified":"2019-01-14T15:17:29","modified_gmt":"2019-01-14T15:17:29","slug":"breaking-the-cycle-brands-look-to-the-circular-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lambert.associates\/blog\/disruption\/breaking-the-cycle-brands-look-to-the-circular-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"Breaking the Cycle: Fashion Subscription Rentals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>PARIS, France &#8211; With the fashion industry being the second largest polluters in the world, just after the oil industry, retail actors are doing their part in looking for long-term solutions.\u00a0With only 15% of clothing being recycled, new fashion rental business models are being explored to close the cycle of disposable clothing.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of these retail disruptors such\u00a0as subscription rentals, pre-owned resale, and consignment are easy ways for brands to embrace\u00a0the circular economy.\u00a0This year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/marioabad\/2018\/04\/19\/realreal-stella-mccartney\/\">Stella McCartney partnered with TheRealReal<\/a> on a\u00a0&#8216;Fashion is Circular&#8217; campaign urging customers to consign their products, while\u00a0Kering tests subscription rentals between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.renttherunway.com\/\">Rent the R<\/a><g class=\"gr_ gr_26 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"26\" data-gr-id=\"26\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.renttherunway.com\/\">unway<\/a><\/g> and Saint Laurent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brands are also beginning to rent clothes directly to consumers.\u00a0French shoe brand\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lambertandassociatesgroup.us6.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=6cc03e60e43f16ac40b2124f1&amp;id=8a731c0418&amp;e=808770ec96\">Bocage<\/a> has just launched a rental subscription service\u00a0whereby\u00a0customers pay\u00a039\u20ac per month to rent a pair of shoes for two months. At the end of the rental period, the shoes are cleaned and can be borrowed anew. Customers can also choose to purchase the shoes at any time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The growing popularity of  fashion rental and subscription sales prove that it&#8217;s no longer a novel idea but a new
